Dating can be challenging, especially when you live in a city like Los Angeles. The good news is that there are a LOT of single people here, but the bad news? It’s easy to get lost in the crowd on a dating app. This is where dating coaches and experts can be a real advantage.
Many of us don’t like to ask for help, especially when it comes to our personal lives (guys, I’m talking to you!). But when you reach out to an expert, it can shift your perspective, change your approach, and ultimately yield results.
We believe in the power of expert guidance when it comes to dating. Which is why we’re introducing a new series of posts, providing you with knowledge of the best dating experts across America.
But first up is Los Angeles.
Dating apps are a good way to connect in L.A., because they introduce you to people outside of your current networks. But here’s the thing: not everyone on a dating app is looking for a long-term relationship. People here tend to be focused on their careers, which means dating can feel a little icky if someone is more interested in your work connections than in you.
Don’t worry – there are plenty of people who want more than a hookup or a business lead. They want to find love, too.
L.A. dating experts know this. They understand the unique dating challenges of the city. Best of all, they understand that we all have blind spots as well as goals, and can help you to break down emotional barriers, see your dating habits more clearly, and give you tools to better connect with people. Love is all about connection.
These are our favorite L.A. dating coaches to get you started:
Marni Battista – Dating with Dignity
Marni helps women learn to date confidently and feel empowered. She has a master’s degree in education and is a certified life coach as well as a trained facilitator. In addition to one-on-one coaching, she holds seminars and retreats and dishes out advice on her website – it’s full of useful tools and resources. She also hosts a podcast called The Dating Den where she interviews personal growth experts, psychologists, and more for behavioral insight into dating. If you need tools, she’s the ultimate toolkit!
Jonathon is a self-proclaimed “guy’s guy” who helps women understand the male mind when it comes to dating in their thirties, forties and beyond. He’s also author of a new book where he explores the idea of how to cultivate self-esteem and happiness (with a bit of initial skepticism) called What the Heck is Self-Love Anyway? His specialty is getting real with his clients and teaching them “purposeful dating” through his coaching method.
Laurie Davis Edwards
Laurie got her start as the eFlirt expert in New York City, but she has since gotten married, had a child, and moved to Los Angeles to start her relationship and personal growth coaching practice dubbed The Worthy One. She and her real-life wingman/ dating coach husband get real about their own relationship struggles, revealing that after the honeymoon phase, relationships require more love, dedication, and raw honesty than either of them thought possible. She helps people empower themselves as well as be able to ask for help, so they can approach their relationships with open hearts and courage.
Damona got her start in television as a casting director and TV executive, transforming her entertainment industry skills into becoming a sought-after dating coach. (She’s been in front of the camera, too – starring in the TV series #BlackLove and currently hosts the podcast Dates & Mates). She’s not afraid to ask the tough questions and really go deep with clients who might otherwise resist her efforts. She offers plenty of resources for daters as well as the chance to call in to her podcast with your questions.
This expert has helped millions change their personal lives for the better because he takes a holistic approach – transforming mind, body and spirit to attract love into your life. David is a straight-talker who will give you his honest take on what’s going wrong and how to fix it – “nice” isn’t the goal; he wants results. He’s been interviewed by many top media outlets and countless radio shows, and offers bootcamps, personal coaching, and resources via his website to help get your love life on track. He’s also a contributor to The Huffington Post and The Good Men Project.
Julie got her start as a dating coach more than two decades ago, offering advice on online dating before swiping came along and made it mainstream! She’s a master of crafting the perfect profile and posting the most intriguing pictures to attract potential matches, having learned over the years what turns women and men on (and off). And let’s face it – when you’re online dating, it all starts with your digital first impression, otherwise you don’t get a chance to meet! Julie makes sure you make it past this first crucial step to go on and date successfully.
The guy behind Tripp Advice got his start because he was frustrated with his own social awkwardness and inability to escape “the friend zone” with women. So he researched, tested, and developed his own method of engaging women, and began offering his advice via a very successful podcast. Now, he offers advice in short YouTube videos and offers one-on-one coaching to help men and women overcome their fears and perceived obstacles to live the lives they want to live.
Lisa is a longtime L.A. dating expert with a master’s degree in spiritual psychology and a certified life coach. Her approach to dating is a personal growth process – “simple, but not simplistic,” and she often refers to it as “emotionally naked dating.” She helps clients build successful relationships without compromising themselves or settling for less than what they want. She’s appeared on the Millionaire Matchmaker and conducts retreats as well as one-on-one counseling sessions, helping people grow to attract the relationships they desire.
Kelly Seal is a freelance writer, dating expert, and author of the book “Date Expectations: A Guide to Changing Your Dating Life and Finding Real Love.” She got her start in the dating industry by hosting speed dating events around southern California and offering advice and encouragement to attendees. She now lives in L.A. and spends her free time hiking in the Santa Monica mountains and blogging at www.kellyseal.com.
