The warm summer weather often brings out the best in us. It makes us jovial, excited, and open to meeting new people. If you’re having a summer fling filled with fun, laughs, flirting, and quality time together, you may want it to turn into something more meaningful.
Luckily, your partner may possess the qualities that you’ve always wanted in a guy/girl, and you may be thinking about taking things to the next level (i.e. relationship). So how can you turn your summer fling into a real relationship? Here is some meaningful dating and relationship advice.
Reflect on what you want
Even before you jump into sharing dating ideas with your partner, first take time to reflect about what you want out of this relationship. It’s okay to be selfish for a moment and to think about what your specific goals are. Are you craving long-term companionship? Are you actually ready for a relationship? Reflecting on these questions will enable you to know exactly what you want out of this.
Be prepared to be honest with your partner
Perhaps the most challenging part is coming clean in front of your partner. Remember that he/she may have other intentions than yours, so communication is key! Don’t pressure your partner into accepting what you want. Instead, allow them to also reflect on whether they wish to take this fling to the next level. Be prepared to accept what you may not want to hear.
Be a little cheeky
Sometimes your partner just needs a little convincing. If you feel that he/she would want a relationship but is hesitant, little cues can work wonders. Leave some of your clothes at his place so you can have an excuse to keep coming over, or buy her an occasional gift to make her feel special and appreciated. These hints will eventually lead him/her to start thinking about the fling in more serious terms.
Show your partner what they’re missing
In some cases, your partner may assume that you’ll always be available when they need you. Try to occasionally remind them what they would be missing if you weren’t around. For example, if your summer fling is purely casual, take the risk of accepting attention from other people just to make him/her more appreciative of your presence.
You can do simple things such as accepting a short dance from another guy/girl when you go out, or saying hi to someone who shows you interest. This will make your partner think about whether they’re okay with letting you go or taking things to the next level.
The sooner the better
For most summer flings, it’s easy to simply drag things out and hope for the best down the line. However, this can prove to be disastrous if you have genuine relationship goals. Gather up the courage to be open and honest with your partner about what you feel early on. This will give you enough time to iron things out and determine what lies ahead.
